The fly tying vise FLYLAB LEVA made by Stonfo is a product with a truly exceptional quality/price ratio. As always the construction qualities are excellent and the materials used are stainless steel, brass and aluminium. This is a vise suitable both for the beginner who wants to start immediately with a product of excellent quality but also for the expert fly tiers who does not want to spend exorbitant amounts of money.

To facilitate understanding we have identified each piece of the vise with a letter. Each time a specific piece of the vise will be named you will find the reference letter next to the word.
The weight of the base together with the 4 anti-skid feet guarantee excellent stability during fly tying. In the upper part of the pedestal base there are 2 housings inside which you can store hooks or tungsten beads to keep them always at hand.
The vise bar can be inserted either on the base or on the table clamp, according to your needs. On the locking screw of both supports there are holes inside which you can insert the Allen key to give greater force when tightening the screw. There is no need to overtighten.
Unlike its younger brother FLY LAB BASE, the FLY LAB LEVA is super-equipped. Inside you will find in fact 3 interchangeable jaws: small, medium and large, with which you can tie your artificial flies on hooks with a size ranging from 28 to 4/0 without problems. The pliers are made of hardened steel and have an exceptional grip on the hook. However, we recommend that you do not fix the hook too tightly to the end of the tip of the jaw as you could risk chipping it.
The head can be tilted at will (FIG.1), just act on the central bolt (F) with the Allen key. By loosening the locking screw on the base you can rotate the whole head of the vise 360° (FIG.2), this can be useful if you are using glues or paints because if drops should accidentally fall on you, they will end up on the work table and not on the base of the vise, risking ruining it.
The jaw cylinder (E) is made from a single block of stainless steel and is able to rotate on its axis at 360°. This rotation can be modulated through the drag knob (C) which allows 3 different types of rotation:
Free: by loosening the drag knob as much as possible, the hook will be completely free to rotate 360° without any friction.
Medium lock: By tightening the drag knob at half stroke the hook will always be free to rotate 360° but it will lock in the 0° position and in the 180° position (FIG.3). To unlock it from these two positions and continue with the rotation, simply apply a little more force.
Total lock: By fully tightening the drag knob, the hook will lock in the chosen position.
As can be seen in FIG.4 the hook fixing system is done through the rear lever (A). With the adjustment screw (B) it is possible to adjust the clamping force which must necessarily be adapted to the thickness of the hook. Bringing the drag knob (C) to total lock and turning the rear lever counterclockwise you will be able to unscrew the jaw (D) and then extract it from the jaw cylinder and replace it with the one most suitable for the artificial fly you want to tie.
Also included in the price is the table clamp. Its opening is very wide (5.5cm) and allows you to fix the clamp even on thick tables. Working with the vice attached to the table clamp will give you maximum stability during fly tying. Stainless steel, aluminium and brass have also been used for this accessory.
And also present in the FLYLAB LEVA is the practical spring material clip that allows you to momentarily move the tying thread, hackles or any other fly tiyng material from the work area to be more free in some steps of the tying.
The dimensions of the vice, especially when disassembled, are very small. For this reason it is easy to store in a drawer and convenient to transport in case you need to go tying in a fishing club or elsewhere.
The FLYLAB LEVA is compatible with all the accessories of the Stonfo line.
