The CLASSIC WAXED THREAD from Semperfli is a fly-tying thread made of very fine extruded polyester fibres treated with a small amount of wax. The wax prevents fraying of the fly-tying yarn, which thus remains supple and uniformly robust and tear resistant. This is, of course, also a great advantage when using the split-thread technique to fix dubbing and other fly-tying materials, because the two fibre strands of the split thread remain nicely compact, and the individual fibres are not damaged.
The fibres of the CLASSIC WAXED THREAD are only slightly twisted together, so that this yarn lays very flat on the hook shank due to the flexible fibres and each coil lies perfectly on top of the previous one. This enables you to give your artificial flies perfect silhouettes, as with this tying thread you can easily tie very smooth bodies with a uniform and realistic taper.
The CLASSIC WAXED THREAD comes on a 220m spool, so it is an ideal fly-tying thread for real frequent tyers. Our professional fly tyers consistently tie over 400 individual flies with just one spool.
In 105 denier - 8/0, this robust tying thread is very tear-resistant with a breaking strength of 754 grams. Due to the medium thread diameter, the CLASSIC WAXED THREAD is primarily suitable for tying medium to large fly patterns. It is particularly suitable for tying dry flies, as the waxed tying thread does not absorb water. Even delicate natural tying materials, but also foam elements can be tied very well and safely, as this fly-tying thread does not cut into the tying materials due to its medium diameter.
